The Department of Finance goes back to 1989. At this time on the basis of the merger of two small departments (statistics and industrial economies) the Department of General Economic Disciplines was established. The famous economist, Doctor of Science (Economics), Professor, Academician of the Academy of Economic Sciences of Ukraine Lidiya Aleksandrovna Omelyanovich was appointed as the Head of the Department.

The Department of Accounting was established in 1920 and is one of the oldest departments of Donetsk National University of Economics and Trade named after M.Tugan-Baranovsky.

The Department of Control and Analysis of Economic Activity was founded in 1989.
The teaching staff is represented by experienced teachers, most of whom are university graduates and post-graduates. The Department has two Doctors of Science (Economics), 3 Professors, 15 Candidates of Science (Economics).

The Department has formed a scientific school, the basic scientific direction of which is the study of problems of business planning of investment projects, management of investment capital at enterprises, investment infrastructure formation. Within the school there are teachers, postgraduates and doctoral students of the Department who do scientific work and there is a possibility for Candidates and Doctors to defend their theses.
